Fall is here-winter is coming

It is that time of year when depression can hit hard for some folks.  Seasonal depression is a real thing and there are ways to lessen the effects of depression during this time.  Some simple steps are:
Deep breathing
Distraction
Engage in preferred activities as much as possible
Keep busy
Seek therapy
Take medication as prescribed
Connect with all support persons
Join support group and/or spiritual guidance

Now is a great time to get outside and take in some fresh air.  Fresh air is cleansing and lifts mood.  ​We thrive off of positive energy sources, and fresh air and sunlight are two of the most important forms of a positive energy source. Fresh air helps you naturally wake up, so starting your morning with a walk can be a great way to start the day if you're trying to stay away from caffeine

Journey in therapy:

When I first came to see Dawn,  I was carrying a very heavy load in my life.  This included dealing with anxiety, depression, unhealthy family relationships and past trauma and abuse.  In Dawn, I found a therapist who not only was extremely skilled in what she did, but who also cared deeply about me and my life struggles.   After two years of therapy,  I can honestly say that my life has improved in dramatic ways.  I now know how to trust myself, to have healthy relationships and protect myself, and to deal with the things that life throws my way.  I am a better wife and mom after getting help.  I will always be grateful that I took this journey and that I was blessed to have Dawn as my therapist.  

EMDR:

When I began EMDR therapy, past trauma that I had experienced was present with me every day.   It affected the way that I reacted to and perceived things.   By participating in EMDR therapy, I was able to revisit these experiences and process them in a supportive and caring environment at my own pace.  In doing this, I was able to find healing and understanding in what I had experienced.  I was amazed at how quickly the healing took place!  I can now look back on these incidents and not experience the overwhelming emotions and reactions that they once created.  I am very grateful for the powerful effects that EMDR had in my life and would recommend it to anyone dealing traumatic experiences from their past.

Being outdoors can be so healthy.  Fresh air really helps to clear your mind and strengthen your soul.  Schedule a walk, bikeride, adventure, camping trip - anything that captures your heart!  Breath it in, see it all, hear it all, feel it all and absorb the sensations.  Let it clear your mind and strengthen your soul!  Explore this world and find a positive shift in your mental health!

Holiday season

First month has been very busy.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the comments about my serene office and client centered service.  

My post today is to broaden awareness of depression and anxiety during the holiday season.  I ask everyone to be conscientious of others feelings and emotions during this time of year.  Some may have lost loved ones recently or in the past and are missing them, yet others are struggling financially to make their holiday celebration a special time for their family.  Whatever the situation may be, lets help each other make this a peaceful and blessed holiday.

The busy holiday season is upon us.  This is the time of year we all feel more stress, anxiety and even depression.  Remember to take care of yourself, even if its just a few minutes a day, it can make a world of difference.  Take advantage of the free apps on relaxation, mindfulness and stress reduction meditation.  They help me relax and even sleep at night.  Lavender oil is great for relaxation as well.  Always check with your doctor before applying anything new to your body.

Welcome to our website.  I look forward to providing news and information about mental health topics.  I am always interested in ideas of topics so please feel free to make suggestions.  

I am excited to open my new clinic and help others be successful in life.  My plan is to also offer parenting classes, kids groups, and much more!
